Building Momentum: IDRIC’s first Parliamentary reception
With less than 90 months to go to reach our 2030 emissions reduction targets, it has never been more important to ensure that Net Zero remains firmly on the national political agenda.
IDRIC’s first Parliamentary reception in Westminster in June gave the opportunity to discuss with UK policy makers the contribution of industrial decarbonisation toward Net Zero and the crucial role of research and innovation in its delivery.
We were thrilled to bring together partners from across the industrial decarbonisation community in one room to share success stories and discuss crucial next steps.
It was great to have representatives from the UK’s largest industrial clusters from Teesside and Humber, the Solent, South Wales and the Black Country, to the North West and Scotland, coming together, fostering connections and showing the importance of working together across sectors and regions.
Thanks for helping us to showcase the impact of IDRIC’s research and innovation contributions to the industrial decarbonisation challenge.
Huge thanks to MPs, policy makers and academic and industry partners engaging in the conversations of the evening, and to those who sent messages of support. A special thank you to our host Jacob Young MP for his hospitality and ongoing support in raising awareness of these issues.
Supporting UK’s energy-intensive industry in reducing CO2 emissions from steel and cement, to chemicals and food & drink production is not only a key for reaching UK’s Net Zero targets, but also for ensuring the economic and social benefits of this transition throughout the UK.
At IDRIC, experts from 23 UK universities and more than a 100 partners from industry, government and the Third Sector, are working hard to support this journey through a whole-systems programme of transformative research and innovation.
The IDRIC Policy Team will contintue to focus the conversation on the policy and regulatory support we need to accelerate industrial decarbonisation in the UK with our upcoming policy white paper and the next Industrial Decarbonsiation Policy Forum after the summer.
