Research and Innovation

Research and Innovation  →

Driving industrial decarbonisation depends on research and innovation that deliver practical solutions, shape policy and accelerate change. IDRIC brings together expertise from across the UK to turn evidence into action and ensure research has real impact on the journey to net zero.

The following outputs capture the knowledge and experience of those supporting the UK’s industrial transition:

Frontiers Report Series  →

The Frontiers Report series of reports brings together the research findings from across IDRIC’s 100 projects, making recommendations to industry and policymakers to support them in attaining their net zero targets.

Research and Innovation Agenda for Net Zero Industries  →

The Research & Innovation Agenda for Net Zero Industries outlines the key research and innovation needs for the UK’s net zero targets. Bringing together insights from IDRIC’s research and stakeholder engagement, it highlights where targeted action can have the greatest impact and sets out the most important opportunities, challenges and next steps to accelerate industrial decarbonisation across the UK.

Lessons from the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans →

This report will draw cross-cutting lessons from the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans (LIDP) portfolio. It will synthesise the evidence from all thirteen LIDP projects to identify what local industrial sites are choosing to do, what enables or constrains delivery and what follows for policy, investment and programme design.

Impact Case Studies  →

Between 2021 and 2025, IDRIC delivered a portfolio of 100 research projects plus industry secondments in collaboration with 46 research institutions and a wide range of industrial partners.

Here you will find a selection of case studies from these projects and secondments which illustrate IDRIC’s impact over this period.

MaritimeTwin  →

The MaritimeTwin project, developed by IDRIC, CGI, and Maritime UK will deliver an innovative digital twin and satellite technology solution for the maritime sector, focused on vessel route optimisation and environmental impact assessment.

MaxStoreUK  →

The MaxStoreUK project builds on six IDRIC-funded research projects to maximise the UK’s geological CO2 and hydrogen storage for net zero. Led by BGS, the project will investigate the UK’s subsurface storage resource in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, and the University of Manchester.
