Sodium nitrite-sodium nitrate eutectic based composite phase change material (CPCM) for medium-temperature thermal energy storage (TES): Exploring the relationship between microstructures and thermal properties

Journal of Energy Storage

November 2024

This paper investigates a new type of material designed to store heat efficiently at medium temperatures. The material combines different components to stabilise its shape, improve heat transfer, and store both latent and sensible heat. This study finds that the material undergoes two reversible changes—one solid-to-solid and one solid-to-liquid—allowing it to store a significant amount of energy. It also remains stable at high temperatures over repeated use. By examining the material’s structure in detail, the study shows how its design influences performance, offering potential for use in high-temperature technologies like industrial waste heat recovery.
