Does swirl number affect the radiative and convective heat transfer from diffusion hydrogen-methane blended flames?

This paper investigates how switching from methane to hydrogen as a fuel affects heat transfer in industrial flames — a key concern for industries aiming to cut carbon emissions. While hydrogen burns without producing carbon dioxide, it also lacks some of the heat-radiating properties of methane flames. Using a test burner, researchers explored how different flame shapes and fuel blends affect how heat is transferred to materials like steel. They found that mixing hydrogen with methane changes flame behaviour and heat intensity in complex ways, suggesting that successful hydrogen fuel use will depend on careful adjustment of flame conditions.
