Seismic hazard assessment for the UK offshore exclusive economic zone

September 2024

This report presents new seismic hazard maps for peak ground acceleration and spectral acceleration at short and long periods for the UK’s offshore Exclusive Economic Zone. They are intended to replace the maps published in 2002. The work was informed at key stages by external experts who reviewed the project’s main components. These offshore maps provide a robust indication of the level of seismic hazard for offshore structures and carbon capture and storage sites in UK waters, e.g. Acorn and HyNet, so that high-consequence offshore structures can be designed appropriately to reduce risks to people and the environment.
