Production of alinite-chlormayenite clinker and its hydration behaviour with increasing gypsum content

Cement and Concrete Research

March 2025

This paper investigates a new type of low-energy cement made from a special blend of minerals, including alinite and chlormayenite. This cement is produced at a lower temperature than traditional Portland cement and has been tested with different amounts of gypsum to see how it reacts with water. The study finds that it sets more quickly than Portland cement, with alinite being particularly reactive. Small amounts of gypsum help form strong compounds early in the process, while higher gypsum levels slow the initial reaction but allow more complete formation of key products. These findings could help reduce the environmental impact of cement production while maintaining performance, supporting the development of more sustainable construction materials.
