Industry stakeholder perceptions of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage: The case study of the Tees Valley industrial cluster

Green and Low-Carbon Economy

February 2025

This paper explores how carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) could help reduce industrial carbon emissions in the UK, with a focus on the Tees Valley region. It draws on insights from local experts and practitioners to understand what supports or hinders the use of this technology. While CCUS is seen as important for reaching climate goals and attracting younger workers interested in sustainability, barriers such as high costs, limited awareness, and political uncertainty remain. The study highlights the need for strong government strategies, investment in skills and infrastructure, and local political support to make CCUS a success.
