Hydration and carbonation curing of high ferrite clinker (FePC) synthesised using EAF slag

Low-carbon Materials and Green Construction

December 2024

This paper examines the use of Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slag as a sustainable alternative in cement production. It shows that EAF slag can replace 20% of traditional raw materials to produce a ferrite-rich cement clinker with a balanced mix of key components. The study finds that adding a small amount of gypsum improves how the material reacts with water, leading to the formation of strong binding compounds. It also investigates how exposure to carbon dioxide affects the material. While some compounds break down over time, the overall strength of the mortar increases, suggesting promise for greener cement solutions.
