Design and modelling of mobile thermal energy storage (M−TES) using structured composite phase change material modules

Applied Thermal Engineering

October 2024

This paper explores a new design for a mobile thermal energy storage (M-TES) device that could help capture and reuse wasted heat from industrial processes in the UK. Using salt-based materials to store heat and air to move it in and out, the device was tested through computer simulations and experiments. It was found to store a large amount of heat efficiently, with most of it successfully released when needed. The study shows the potential of this technology to reduce industrial emissions and even support household heating, offering a promising step towards a lower-carbon energy future.
