Conceptual design and thermodynamic investigation of novel energy and fuel generation systems from municipal waste coupled with carbon capture and storage

SSN

November 2024

This paper explores innovative ways to manage waste while generating energy efficiently and reducing carbon emissions. It examines how plastics and food waste can be turned into cooling, heating, electricity, and biomethane, using a combination of advanced technologies, including carbon capture and storage (CCS). The study evaluates different system designs and their potential to reduce emissions while maximising energy output. By modelling these processes, the research highlights a promising approach to sustainable waste management that could be applied globally. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and engineers aiming to develop cleaner, more efficient energy solutions.
