Clusters in context: Towards a typology of industrial decarbonisation initiatives

Wiley

February 2025

This paper examines the evolving landscape of industrial decarbonisation initiatives, and the growing importance of clear definitions for effective communication and knowledge exchange among stakeholders. Drawing on insights from cluster theory, it introduces a new way of categorising industrial decarbonisation initiatives, helping to clarify their distinct characteristics and challenges. By identifying four main types of clusters and providing real-world examples, the paper offers useful insights for policymakers and researchers. This work aims provide guidance for future research and policy development in the transition towards a low-carbon industrial future.
