Carbon-based electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction

Energy Conversion and Management: X

April 2025

This paper explores new ways to make hydrogen energy cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable. It focuses on water splitting—a method of producing hydrogen without harmful emissions—but highlights the need to move away from expensive and rare metals like platinum. Instead, it looks at more affordable materials, especially carbon-based compounds, which can be enhanced with tiny metal particles and other elements to boost their performance. By reviewing recent advances in these alternative materials, the paper sheds light on promising approaches that could make hydrogen a more practical and eco-friendly energy source in the future.
