There is a requirement to develop sustainable chemical process for the conversion of industrially derived CO2 wastes into valuable chemicals. This research article is part of an ongoing investigation aimed at the catalytic transformation of CO2 into new molecules. This work has involved the design of a novel binuclear ruthenium-based complex which is uniquely air stable complex, easy-to-handle and is a highly active catalyst. The catalyst was applied in the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 to produce formic acid, isolated as formate salt in the presence of a base. Excellent conversions with catalytic turnovers of up to 9900 were achieved..
