A performance modeling study for zero fossil CO2 stack operation and solvent thermal reclaiming in post-combustion capture industrial applications

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research

March 2025

This paper explores how industries like power plants, steelworks, refineries and cement factories can significantly reduce their carbon emissions by implementing post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) technology in a cost-effective manner. It examines how to efficiently achieve 100% of fossil CO2 capture from flue gases—something often thought to be too energy-intensive and expensive – and strategies to recover solvent and energy aiming at reducing costs and improved performance. The study offers trends and guidelines for operation at ultra-high capture fractions and effective solvent reclaiming. These findings offer practical solutions for industries aiming to decarbonise and provide valuable insights for engineers and policymakers working towards net zero
