The IDRIC CO2Stored 2.0 project will deliver up-to-date information on the UK storage resource for all UK clusters to plan emissions reduction by CCS. This will be achieved by consultation and feedback with IDRIC members to identify additional publicly available information for planned database updates from:
• Already-available information including government-funded investigations and research
• Update of offshore hydrocarbon field stores from available data
• Recent data sources identified and provided by IDRIC members
• IDRIC-funded CO2 storage research projects
First update of already available information:
• Collated updated information from government-funded investigations and research.
• BEIS- and industry-supported UK FEED CCS competition & demonstration projects,
• ETI-supported Strategic Storage Appraisal Project
• Viking Gas Fields, Hamilton Gas Fields, Bunter Closure 36, Captain & Forties 5 aquifer sandstones
• Mapping of additional aquifer storage units and recalculation of values in East Irish Sea Basin
Establishing a process to update CO2Stored:
• Updated database scripts with ‘modern’ and recent software
• Scripts run and checked, including the Monte Carlo calculations
• Updated input data uploaded and checked by geoscientists
• Calculated values from updated data run and checking in progress
Second update of hydrocarbon field data:
• Data collated for offshore hydrocarbon field data available after 2011
• Reviewed the hydrocarbon field methodology and output
• Applied background principles to calculate capacity in oil & gas fields
• Output data for 241 oil fields provided to database staff
• Collation of updated gas field data in progress
First updates of UK national CO2 storage database planned late 2022 and early 2023
