Where to locate new bioenergy with carbon capture and storage? A natural capital approach

IDRIC Project IA 4.4

Dr Lindsay-Marie Armstrong

Principal Investigator

University of Southampton

Aim

This project aims to advance the impact of modelled results generated in IDRIC’s project MIP 8.4 Where to locate new bioenergy with carbon capture & storage? A natural capital approach, delivering engagement activities with key stakeholders, including current IDRIC partners, Drax and Tata Steel, and extending the research findings to others both inside and outside IDRIC. Biomass supply chain development is key to the prospects of developing BECCS within the industrial clusters, but it must also be politically feasible and address socio-economic risks and opportunities.

A key outcome of the engagement activities will be determining the most important feasibility concerns for stakeholders, and how the modelling tool can be used to explore these concerns, including quantifying risks and opportunities, and identifying the optimal industrial cluster locations for delivering BECCS successfully.
