Assessing regional demand for geological H2 storage: Building a strategic case for investment in the east coast cluster

IDRIC Project FF 4-6

Dr Katriona Edlmann

Principal Investigator

University of Edinburgh

Aim

Through stakeholder engagement with industry partners, the project will deliver a comprehensive assessment of hydrogen storage demand – alongside a regional geological storage capacity assessment considering socio-environmental constraints.

The aim of this project is to deliver location specific demand vs capacity assessment of geological storage in Teesside. The key objectives are:

  1. Two-way engagement with industry to derive storage demand,
  2. Assess storage capacity of geological solutions cognisant of socio-environmental issues,
  3. Highlight any discrepancies between demand and capacity, developing a roadmap to mitigate constraining factors – thereby, unlocking regional decarbonisation potential.
