Enabling sustainable cooling and heating across the Tees Valley industrial cluster

IDRIC Project FF 4-16

Aim

This project aims to develop ‘Net Zero Ready’ scenario for the Tees Valley industrial cluster where heating and cooling demands are meet currently via fossil usage. The following specific objectives are considered to achieve the overall aim:

  • Addressing challenges in heating and cooling provision from conventional routes and adapting/coupling with more sustainable carbon free solutions.
  • Increasing supply of renewable heating and cooling by identification of adequate technologies such as heat pumps, absorption chillers, solar thermal flat plate collectors, energy storage for both hot and cold reservoirs and to further diversify the technology portfolio within an industrial cluster, for three different applications.
  • Assessing environmental impacts, in short, medium, and long term, of ESC technologies and speeding up of early adoption to upscaling within the industrial cluster for the benefit of sustainable energy transition.

This project will help to increase the share of clean energy in the heating/cooling sector and thus reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.
