Inspiring young minds: work skills readiness for decarbonisation in the Humber

IDRIC Project FF 4-15

Dr Redouane Sarrakh

Principal Investigator

University of Lincoln

Aim

The project aims to investigate the perception of young people (aged 11 – 18) regarding the ongoing transition to net zero across the South Humber and Lincolnshire regions. Building on the findings of IDRIC project MIP 9.5 Enabling skills for the industrial decarbonisation supply chain, the study aims to understand young pupils’ baseline motivation and what’s needed to persuade them to become drivers of green change.

There are three project objectives:

  1. Understanding future workforce perceptions and motivations with respect to decarbonisation.
  2. Investigating the educational impact: Teachers, career councillors and school staff are instrumental in shaping students’ understanding of sustainability and net-zero, thus influencing future career choices.
  3. Understanding the role of geography, as different regional communities face unique challenges and opportunities. Understanding how children in South the Humber and Lincolnshire perceive topics related to the net-zero transition will inform local policies and initiatives.
