Towards accurate measurement of supercritical CO2 for the advancement of UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)

IDRIC Project FF 4-14

Aim

This study aims to complement and challenge existing evidence by examining the behaviour of Coriolis meters under supercritical conditions. The primary objective is to gain insights into flow and density measurements of relevant CCS mixtures at supercritical conditions.

The specific measurable objectives for this study include:

  1. Calibration of the Coriolis meter across high-temperature and high-pressure conditions using a primary standard densitometer.
  2. Evaluation of the Coriolis meter’s performance in density measurement for supercritical CO2
  3. Assessment of the flow measurement performance of the Coriolis meter across a range of relevant supercritical CCS conditions.

By achieving these objectives, a unique flow measurement facility will be set up for further research and development in this area. This study aims to provide guidelines to industry and policymakers in a short time frame in order to meet the UK Gov CCUS contract development schedule and CCUS network code development.
