Comprehensive Assessment of Post-Combustion Capture Options (CAPCCO)

IDRIC Project FF 3-4

Dr Stavros Michailos

Principal Investigator

University of Hull

Aim

The goal of the Comprehensive Assessment of Post-Combustion Capture Options (CAPCCO) project is to create a robust database based on process modelling of multiple amine-based PCC applications. Modelling efforts will focus on CO2 capture fractions of up to 100% of the added fuel CO2. The project will explore the use of low lean loadings that can enhance mass transfer in the absorber and facilitate high capture rates. A multivariate analysis will be carried out to identify parameters that optimise the overall performance of PCC employed at different industries including energy from waste (EfW), refineries, cement, and steel plants. Investigated parameters will include absorber height, stripper pressure and intercooling effects. The study will also include integration of effective solvent management through thermal reclaiming.
