CapCon – conversion of captured carbon dioxide

IDRIC Project FF 2-3

Prof Alex Cowan

Principal Investigator

University of Liverpool

Aim

This project will bring together an industry academia consortium to bridge the knowledge gap on the compatibility of current lab-based electrolysers with real-world captured gas mixtures containing impurities. It will integrate a small-scale electrochemical utilisation trial into the pilot capture activities of all partners. The project aims to (i) assess the compatibility of capture and electrochemical utilisation technologies and (ii) provide technical data (tolerances, energy efficiencies) on the electrochemical utilisation pathway when part of a CCUS system to enable clusters and development teams to undertake systems level assessments ahead of potential larger scale trials.
