Synergistic process for carbon capture, waste heat recovery and hydrogen production

IDRIC Project FF 1-12

Dr Binjian Nie

Principal Investigator

University of Oxford

Aim

This project aims to numerically design and optimise a synergistic and low-cost system which could capture both CO2 and waste heat of the flue gases, using data from British Steel in the Humber cluster as a case study, and furtherly use them for hydrogen production via dry reforming. This could furtherly integrate the steel plants with other industries, such as chemicals and refineries in the cluster. By demonstrating the tech-economic feasibility of a synergistic technology, the project aims not only to link British Steel with a wide range of local plants/projects (e.g., Shell/Uniper Humber H2ub), it also targets a wider impact in the UK industrial cluster decarbonisation.
