The MaxStoreUK project is holding an online hydrogen workshop discussion with various stakeholders, on Tuesday 24 March 2026. MaxStoreUK researchers will present the findings from prior research followed by a panel of industry representatives sharing their perspectives on large-scale hydrogen porous rock geological storage.
The findings from the IDRIC-funded hydrogen storage work will be summarised on:
- Experimental exposure of UK formations to hydrogen-rich environments at elevated temperatures and pressures investigating (a) geochemical or microbial changes and (b) reactivity and storage efficiency
- Hydrogen core-flood experiments using samples from Cleethorpes 1 Geothermal wellbore (analogue to Bunter sandstone in Southern North Sea) and its implication on large scale hydrogen storage by reservoir scale modelling
The industry panellists have been asked to outline their perceived challenges for large-scale hydrogen porous rock geological storage.
Register here to attend the online workshop.
Speakers:
- Matthew Vosper, BGS: Hydrogen storage in porous rocks: will the rocks react?
- Lin Ma, University of Manchester: Enabling grid-scale hydrogen storage in porous rocks: An experimental perspective
- Omid Shahrokhi, Heriot-Watt University: Scaling up hydrogen storage for UK industrial clusters
Panel:
- Adrian Topham, The Crown Estate
- John Aldersey-Williams, Progressive Energy
- Chris McClane, Centrica Gas Storage
